Meet Sarah

BSc (Hons) Lic. Ac MBAcC HOPA

A graduate of the renowned College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Five Element acupuncture and am a licensed Acupuncturist, specialising in paediatric acupuncture.

Beyond acupuncture, I am a life coach and trauma-informed foster carer with over 18 years of experience. During my time fostering, I noticed how traumatised children responded to various therapies without lasting impact. I have always believed that acupuncture can help regulate a child's nervous system, enabling them to cope better in life.

My philosophy is deeply holistic. In Chinese Medicine, everything in the body is connected — including our emotions. To truly treat the physical body, I must also tend to the emotional. That's why I always allow clients the time and space to talk through whatever is affecting them, as it can significantly influence treatment.

I am particularly passionate about supporting mental health, children's wellbeing, and teenage health. I'm committed to my own wellbeing so that I can be the best practitioner I can be for you.

What is Acupuncture?

A natural, holistic therapy used for over 2,500 years to restore balance, relieve pain, reduce stress and promote wellbeing — treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Fine acupuncture needles used during acupuncture treatment
Fine acupuncture needles placed along a patient’s back during treatment

Acupuncture

Fine, sterile needles are placed at carefully selected points to restore the flow of Qi along the body's meridians. Most people find treatment deeply relaxing — many even fall asleep.

Tuning fork therapy applied to acupuncture points on a patient’s arm

Tuning Fork Therapy

A gentle, needle-free technique. Calibrated tuning forks placed on acupuncture points create subtle vibrations that calm the nervous system and encourage healing — ideal for those who prefer no needles.

Moxibustion heat therapy applied to a patient’s back

Moxibustion

An ancient technique using the warmth of burning dried mugwort to warm acupuncture points, stimulate circulation and support the body's energy. Particularly beneficial for cold conditions.

Cupping therapy with glass cups creating gentle suction on a patient’s back

Cupping

Glass or silicone cups are applied to the skin using suction to increase circulation of Qi and blood, release muscular tension and encourage deep relaxation.

Tui Na Chinese massage performed on a patient’s upper back and shoulders

Tui Na & Massage

A hands-on Chinese massage technique using gentle pressure and therapeutic movement to release muscular tension, support circulation and encourage deep relaxation.

Gua sha therapy using a smooth-edged tool on a patient’s back

Guasha

A smooth-edged tool is used to gently scrape the skin's surface to increase circulation, release tension and alleviate pain. Light marks may appear and typically fade within a few days.

Auricular acupuncture treatment with fine needles placed around the ear

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture

Tiny needles are placed around the ear while you remain seated and clothed. Particularly effective for stress, weight management, smoking cessation and PTSD. Just five needles, 30 minutes.

Acupressure therapy using gentle pressure on a patient’s shoulder and upper back

Acupressure

The same healing points as acupuncture, stimulated without needles using gentle pressure. I may also teach you self-care techniques so you can continue the healing process at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel little to no pain. The needles are very fine, and you may feel a slight sensation as they are inserted, but many people find the experience deeply relaxing.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes. Acupuncture is very safe when carried out by a fully qualified practitioner using sterile, single-use needles in a clean and professional setting.

What can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture can support a wide range of conditions, including pain, stress, anxiety, sleep issues, and digestive or hormonal imbalances.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your individual condition and goals.

  • Acute issues may improve in 1–4 sessions.
  • Chronic concerns often require a series, typically 5–10 sessions.
  • Some clients choose ongoing sessions for maintenance and preventative care.

After your first appointment, we’ll recommend a treatment plan tailored to you.

What should I do before my appointment?
  • Eat a light meal beforehand — don’t come on an empty stomach.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing.
  • Avoid alcohol before treatment.
Is there any aftercare advice I should follow?
  • Rest: Take it easy after your session and avoid strenuous activity.
  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to support your body’s healing.
  • Eat lightly: Choose a healthy, balanced meal and avoid heavy or greasy foods.
  • Notice changes: Mild soreness, relaxation, or emotional shifts are normal. It can be helpful to track symptom progress.
  • Avoid extremes: It’s best to wait 4–6 hours before taking a hot shower, bath, sauna, or exposing treated areas to cold or drafts. This helps your body maintain the subtle effects of the treatment and supports optimal healing.
  • Follow up: Stick to your recommended treatment plan for best results.
What does it feel like?

Many people describe a sense of calm or heaviness during treatment. It is common to feel deeply relaxed, and some people even fall asleep.

Child receiving gentle paediatric acupuncture care

Not all about needles!

I use a variety of child-friendly, gentle approaches carefully chosen to suit your child's needs and comfort level. Many children actually enjoy their sessions and look forward to returning.

Children & Teenagers

Paediatric Specialist Rebecca Avern Trained Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture member

Trained in Paediatric Acupuncture with the internationally renowned paediatric acupuncturist Rebecca Avern, I am passionate about supporting the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

Children and teenagers often experience physical and emotional imbalances just like adults — but because they are still growing, their bodies and minds respond in unique ways. Acupuncture is a gentle, natural approach that works with the body to restore balance.

Treatment is always adapted to the individual. In many cases it doesn't involve needles at all — children often respond quickly, meaning positive changes can happen in fewer sessions.

I also provide parents and carers with simple, practical advice to support the healing process at home.

Book for Your Child

Child-Friendly Techniques

Tuning Fork Therapy

Particularly helpful for children sensitive to needles. Gentle vibrations stimulate acupuncture points without any needles — deeply relaxing and grounding.

Moxibustion

Warming acupuncture points with the herb mugwort. Most children love moxibustion and find it very relaxing. A lit mugwort stick is held close to the skin without touching.

Paediatric Tui Na

A wonderfully effective system of massage rooted in a mother's instinct to soothe. Babies and children usually love it. I will often teach the routine to parents for use at home.

Cupping

Used for acute conditions like coughs, colds or sports injuries. Most children find being cupped fun and ask for it every time!

Shonishin

The Japanese 'children's needle' technique — using tools to stroke or tap the body without needles. Extremely gentle and ideal for sensitive or anxious children.

Press Seeds

Tiny seeds placed on acupuncture points to gently maintain stimulation between sessions. Parents receive a supply and instructions to use at home.
